Overview of (inter)national accreditation in Brazil

ABSTRACT Objective to outline the panorama of national and international Accreditation in Brazil. Method a descriptive study, quantitative approach documental source. The survey fields were unrestricted access online pages following accrediting methodologies: National Organization (ONA), Joint Commission International (JCI), Canada (ACI), QMentum International, besides page Registry Health Establishments (CNES) and/or institutional sites. Variables extracted: type institution/health care facility; sector management regime; location; level certification (in case seal granted by ONA), size (for hospitals). Descriptive statistical analysis was used. Results data from 1,122 certifications obtained, especially ONA (77.2%) (13.2%). Hospitals prevailed adherence (35.3%), mainly large ones (60.3%) private (75.8%). There concentration quality seals Southeast region Brazil (64.5%), North presented lowest proportion certified establishments (3%). Conclusions implications for practice refer methodology, focusing on hospital area country. mapping outlined can support assertiveness incentive policies external evaluation
